Market / Hat Department

Overview

The Market/Hat Department was created under the provisions of the Garo Hills District (Market Tax) Regulation, 1970 under GHADC to administer the markets of the Garo Hills. These markets are traditional in nature and are regulated by GHADC.

• There are currently 182 registered markets in the Garo Hills.

The Market Department generates revenue from the following:
a) Settlement of Market/Hat
b) Allotment of Mini Shopping Complexes
c) Permanent Shed allotment
d) Permanent site allotment
e) Appointment of Hat Committees
f) Sale of Cattle Challan receipts
g) Complaint fees
h) Settlement of Cattle Markets
i) Settlement of Cattle Feeding Charges
j) Public Sanitation fees
k) Paddy Straw Market
l) Banana Market
